2023-24 Basketball Schedules Revealed: Xavier, Texas A&M, Creighton, and Big West Conference

Xavier University has announced its non-conference men's basketball schedule for the 2023-24 season. The Musketeers will open the season against Robert Morris on November 6 and will participate in the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Summer League in The Bahamas. Xavier University President Colleen Hanycz condemned West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins for using a homophobic slur in reference to the school’s fans during a radio show appearance. Huggins called Xavier fans "Catholic f--s" after claiming they threw "rubber penises" onto the court during the Crosstown Shootout. Huggins has been suspended for the first three games of the 2023-24 season, and his multi-year deal has now gone to a year-to-year situation. His salary will be reduced by $1 million, and the money will go to the school’s LGBTQ+ center, the Carruth Center, and other state and national organizations supporting marginalized communities.

Xavier University President Colleen Hanycz released a statement addressing the use of a homophobic slur by former University of Cincinnati basketball and current West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins in reference to Xavier's fans. Huggins made the comments when he appeared on 700 WLW on Bill Cunningham's "Stooge Report" segment Monday afternoon. Huggins released a statement on the comments he made on Monday, saying in part: "I used a completely insensitive and abhorrent phrase that there is simply no excuse for and I won't try to make one here.

Bob Huggins Faces Backlash for Using Homophobic Slur.

West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins used a homophobic slur to refer to Xavier fans during a radio interview, for which he later apologized. The athletic department of West Virginia University called Huggins' comments "offensive" and said it was reviewing the matter.
