"Deadly Anthrax Outbreak Claims 17 Lives in Uganda"
The death toll from an anthrax outbreak in Kyotera District, Uganda, has risen to 17, with 28 patients currently affected. The Ministry of Health confirmed the outbreak after blood samples from three victims tested positive for anthrax. The disease is caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis and is typically acquired through contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has emphasized that anthrax is not contagious between humans. Local officials and WHO representatives have urged residents to avoid consuming meat from dead animals and to seek medical attention if symptoms arise. Early diagnosis and proper disposal of carcasses are crucial in preventing the spread of the disease.
