Mass Evacuation at White Memorial Hospital Due to Power Outage at Specialty Care Center
A major power outage at White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, forced the evacuation of hundreds of patients, including NICU infants and individuals on ventilators. At least 241 patients were impacted, with 28 in critical condition being rushed to other hospitals. Firefighters had to physically carry patients down stairs due to non-functioning elevators. A woman gave birth to a baby girl during the blackout, with battery-powered flashlights used for illumination. The hospital lost its main power during Tropical Storm Hilary and is investigating the cause of the double failure. Power is expected to be restored by 2 p.m.
