"Russian Attacks and Extreme Cold Leave Over 1,000 Ukrainian Towns Without Power"
Over 1,000 towns and villages in Ukraine lost power due to severe winter weather, with temperatures dropping to about -15 °C in many parts of the country. The power system, weakened by Russian strikes, urged residents to conserve electricity as consumption levels hit record highs. The extreme weather caused significant damage to distribution networks, delaying repair works, and forcing Ukraine to import electricity from neighbouring countries. Last winter's Russian strikes on the power system and the inability of solar power plants to work at full capacity due to dense clouds and bad weather have exacerbated the energy crisis.
