Revolutionary Method Converts Waste Heat to Green Electricity Using Tungsten Disilicide
Researchers from Tokyo University of Science have demonstrated the transverse thermoelectric effect (TTE) in tungsten disilicide (WSi2), a breakthrough that could enhance the efficiency of thermoelectric devices. Unlike traditional devices, transverse thermoelectric devices generate electricity perpendicular to heat flow, reducing energy loss. This study, published in PRX Energy, highlights WSi2's unique electronic structure, which enables direction-specific conductivity, making it a promising candidate for future energy-efficient applications, such as sensors and waste heat conversion.
