Researchers at Macquarie University have developed a new LED light strategy to deter Great White shark attacks by disrupting the silhouette of potential prey, such as surfers, making them less recognizable to sharks. This method, inspired by the natural counterillumination of certain fish, involves using LED lights in specific patterns to break up silhouettes, effectively reducing shark bites. The study, conducted over six years in South Africa, suggests this non-invasive technology could enhance human safety in shark-prone waters.
