Chip Roy Seeks House Rules Committee Leadership

Rep. Chip Roy is vying for the chairmanship of the House Rules Committee, a position that would enhance the influence of the chamber's conservative faction. Roy, a current committee member, has expressed his interest in the role, emphasizing his expertise and ability to unify the conference. "Congress Investigates Antisemitism at UPenn: Demands Documents from University"

House Education and the Workforce Chair Virginia Foxx has launched an investigation into the University of Pennsylvania's response to antisemitism on campus, seeking all reports of antisemitic incidents and related documents since Jan. 1, 2021. The inquiry alleges a pervasive environment of antisemitism at Penn, predating the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. This follows the committee's first investigation into Harvard University and includes requests for documents related to the school's disciplinary process, free speech legal settlements, and foreign donations. Foxx has asked Penn to send the documents by Feb. 7.

"House GOP Demands Action from Harvard on Antisemitism Probe"

The House Education and Workforce Committee is threatening Harvard University with "compulsory measures" after accusing the school of an inadequate response to its antisemitism investigation. Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx criticized Harvard's response as "unacceptable" and demanded timely production of remaining documents. This comes after former Harvard President Claudine Gay's controversial testimony and subsequent resignation, as well as a lawsuit by Jewish students alleging rampant anti-Jewish hatred on campus. Harvard has committed to cooperating with the inquiry and denounces any form of antisemitism.

The Push for a Shorter Workweek: Updates on 4-Day and 32-Hour Bills in Congress and California

The "Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act" has been reintroduced in the House by Rep. Mark Takano, proposing to shorten the standard workweek from 40 hours to 32 for non-exempt employees. The bill would either mean shorter workweeks or more overtime pay for hourly workers. The bill needs to pass out of the House Education and the Workforce Committee to advance toward becoming law, but the committee's chair, Republican Virginia Foxx, signaled she's not a fan of the "top-down" legislation. Proponents say early studies of four-day workweeks have resulted in quality-of-life improvements for workers without sacrificing productivity.
