Decades-Long Doorstop Turns Out to Be Priceless Treasure
A man in Michigan used a 22-pound meteorite as a doorstop for over 30 years before discovering its true value. The meteorite, known as the Edmore meteorite, was identified by geologist Mona Sirbescu at Central Michigan University. It is a large iron-nickel meteorite with a significant amount of nickel, making it both scientifically and monetarily valuable. The man sold the meteorite for $75,000 to Michigan State University's Abrams Planetarium, with a portion of the proceeds going to CMU's earth and atmospheric sciences department.
