US President Joe Biden and Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr have agreed to strengthen military cooperation and adopt new defence guidelines to counter China's growing influence in the Asia-Pacific region. The two leaders also discussed economic cooperation and reaffirmed the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty. The visit marks the first official US visit by a president of the Philippines in more than 10 years and comes as the Biden administration seeks to deepen ties with the Philippines, which soured under Marcos Jr's predecessor Rodrigo Duterte.
