A skateboarding event in Hollywood turned violent as crowds began setting fires, vandalizing property, and throwing rocks and bottles at police officers. The event, which started peacefully, escalated into chaos, prompting a large police and fire crew response. The cause of the violence is unknown, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Unruly crowds gathered in downtown Chicago and near Millennium Park over the weekend, resulting in two people being shot. Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson called the activity "unacceptable," but also said that demonizing youth who have been starved of opportunities in their own communities is not constructive. Mayor Lori Lightfoot also addressed the issue, stating that young people have a right to enjoy the city but must do so in a respectful manner. Fifteen people were arrested in the incident.
