UConn student fatally shot in Hartford robbery.

A University of Connecticut student was shot and killed during an attempted marijuana robbery in Hartford, Connecticut. The victim, 18-year-old Zaid Deje Langs-Myers, was found outside of a crashed vehicle with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police believe the shooter was attempting to steal marijuana found around the vehicle. No arrests have been made, but detectives have strong leads. This is the city's 12th homicide this year.

Former UConn student receives 55-year sentence for murder and kidnapping.

Former University of Connecticut student, Peter Manfredonia, was sentenced to 55 years for murdering Nicholas Eisele and 25 years for kidnapping Eisele's girlfriend. The sentences will be served concurrently. Manfredonia went on a deadly crime spree in May 2020, killing two people and kidnapping Eisele's girlfriend. He was arrested after six days on the run and confessed to the crimes. Eisele's family and girlfriend gave emotional statements in court, and Manfredonia apologized for his actions. He will be sentenced on murder, assault, and home invasion charges for the Willington part of the case on Thursday.

Sen. Blumenthal to be discharged from hospital after surgery for parade injury.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is set to leave the hospital after undergoing successful surgery for a minor leg fracture he sustained during a parade for the University of Connecticut men's basketball team. The 77-year-old Democrat had pins installed to ensure proper healing and began physical therapy the same day. Blumenthal plans to return to Washington next week.
