Uganda's Controversial Law: First 'Aggravated Homosexuality' Charge Raises Execution Fears
A 20-year-old man in Uganda has become the first person to be charged with "aggravated homosexuality" under the country's controversial Anti-Homosexuality Act, which imposes the death penalty for engaging in same-sex acts. The defendant is accused of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a 41-year-old man. The law also criminalizes gay marriage, punishable by life imprisonment. Four other individuals have been charged under the law, but this is the first prosecution for the capital offense. Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Act has been widely criticized by human rights organizations and foreign governments, including the United States.
