Amazon Drivers in California Secure Unionization with Teamsters

Amazon drivers and dispatchers in Palmdale, California, have joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and reached a tentative agreement containing a multitude of workplace improvements, including immediate pay increases, substantial hourly raises in the fall, provisions that hold Amazon accountable on health and safety standards, a grievance procedure, and other benefits. The 84 workers won neutrality and voluntary union recognition to join Local 396 in Los Angeles, making them the first Amazon workers in the nation to organize.

Chipotle settles for $240K with ex-employees over union busting in Maine.

Chipotle Mexican Grill will pay $240,000 to workers at its former Augusta location as part of a settlement after the National Labor Relations Board found the American chain of restaurants serving Mexican fast-food violated labor laws by closing the location just weeks after employees became the first in the country to file for union recognition and by blacklisting a worker who sought employment at one of the company’s other locations in Maine. The company must also offer “preferential rehiring” to all Augusta employees at its other Maine locations for one year.
