As many as 15,000 Nepali men have been recruited by Russia to fight in its war against Ukraine, with promises of a $2,000 monthly salary and a fast-tracked process to obtain a Russian passport. Many have returned traumatized, while some have not returned at all. Families of these fighters are desperate for information and assistance, as hundreds of them have lost contact with their loved ones in Russia. The Nepali government has banned its citizens from traveling to Russia for work and has urged Moscow to address their concerns, but so far, little action has been taken.

Russian Army Commander Dismissed for Ukraine War Failures Dies in Moscow; General Zhidko Dead, General Behind 'Surovikin Line' Vanishes

Colonel General Gennady Zhidko, a former top Russian Army commander who was dismissed for failures in the Ukraine war, has died in Moscow at the age of 57. Zhidko served as Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria and was later appointed Commander of the Eastern Military District. He was removed from his post as commander of the Southern Grouping of Forces in October 2022 after Russia suffered heavy losses in the war. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Public criticism from within the system of the war, and of Putin's team, is not tolerated in Putin's Russia, but Prigozhin is not directly challenging Putin but rather playing a jester role and acting with the approval of those dismayed by the military's conduct of the war, officials, diplomats and analysts told Reuters.

Finland's NATO Membership Ruffles Feathers in Moscow.

Finland is set to formally become a member of NATO on Tuesday, ending years of "military non-alignment." Meanwhile, the husband of a woman accused of assassinating pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky said Monday that he believes his wife has been "framed." Russia is likely seeking to sponsor and develop alternative private military companies (PMCs) to eventually replace the Wagner Group of mercenaries who currently have a significant combat role in Ukraine, Britain's Ministry of Defense said. The death of Tatarsky following an explosion at a cafe in St Petersburg on Sunday has dominated headlines in Russia and beyond. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on his official Telegram channel that he met with House Republican lawmakers in Kyiv.
