Typhoon Koinu wreaks havoc in Hong Kong, disrupting schools and trading
Hong Kong closed schools and suspended trading on the stock exchange as Typhoon Koinu brought torrential rain and strong winds to the city. The Hong Kong Observatory issued a "black" rainstorm warning, the highest level, for about six hours before downgrading it. The typhoon, which weakened into a severe tropical storm, caused significant disruption, including stranded passengers at the airport and disrupted flights and transport. In China's Guangdong province, fishing boats returned to port and coastal areas were temporarily closed. Climate change has made tropical storms more unpredictable and intense, leading to increased rainfall and stronger gusts.
