Typhoon Koinu Approaches Taiwan, Hong Kong on Alert
Typhoon Koinu, equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane, is set to strike southern Taiwan with 130 mph sustained winds, bringing torrential rains, floods, landslides, and dangerous seas. After passing Taiwan, the typhoon may head towards southeast China and Hong Kong, potentially causing flooding. Flights and ferries have been canceled, schools closed, and code red alerts issued. Taiwan is prone to typhoons, with the last comparable storm hitting in 2016.
