"Roanoke Businesswoman's Heartfelt Tribute to Son Lost to Diabetes"
Julie Atkins, owner of AllSports Cafe in Roanoke and Salem, is honoring her late son Lucas, who died at 23 from complications of diabetes, by raising money for the American Diabetes Association during National Diabetes Month. All month, Atkins is hosting fundraising events at her restaurants, with all proceeds going to the organization. On National Diabetes Day, November 14, 15 percent of all sales from both stores will be donated. Atkins is also selling blue ribbons where customers can write messages to hang in the restaurant's windows. Atkins hopes to support those living with diabetes and raise awareness about the disease.
