France experienced nationwide protests and transport strikes against government austerity measures, with significant disruptions in Paris and other cities, as workers and citizens oppose budget cuts affecting public services and social welfare, leading to large police deployments and clashes.
Three German airports, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, and Cologne Bonn, are virtually empty due to strikes called by Germany's Verdi trade union over the cost of living crisis. Nearly 100,000 people will be affected by aviation security worker strikes on Thursday and Friday at the three airports, with around 700 departing flights to be cancelled. The strike will affect 50 companies and run from 3 a.m. until 11 a.m. (0100 GMT-0900 GMT), with significant disruption expected, the railway and transport union said.
Deutsche Bahn has announced that no long-distance trains will operate on Monday due to nationwide transport strikes. The strikes come as German employees in many sectors seek significant wage hikes to keep up with persistently high inflation. Frankfurt Airport has also canceled all regular air traffic on Monday due to the strike.
