"Russian Military's Use of Western Tech Despite Sanctions Revealed in New Analysis"

Russia has managed to circumvent Western sanctions on battlefield technology, importing nearly $9 billion worth of sanctioned goods from January to October 2022. The country needs microchips, sensors, and navigation systems to replenish its stockpiles of weapons, and its missile production capacity is estimated to have doubled in 2023. Western companies, including U.S. semiconductor giant Intel and Chinese company Huawei, are among the top suppliers of battlefield components to Russia. The report recommends bolstering corporate responsibility, closing export control policy gaps, targeting third-country circumvention, and strengthening institutions and cooperation to make trade curbs more effective in restricting Russia's aggression.

US-China Chip War Escalates with Micron Ban and CXMT Demands.

The chair of the US House of Representatives' committee on China has called for trade curbs on Chinese memory chip maker Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) after Beijing banned the sale of some chips by US-based Micron Technology. Representative Mike Gallagher has urged the US Commerce Department to add CXMT to the entity list and ensure no US technology goes to CXMT, YMTC or other PRC firms operating in this industry. CXMT is China's leading maker of DRAM memory chips and the domestic competitor most likely to benefit if Micron is barred from China's massive chip market.
