Second truck carrying toxic soil from East Palestine derailment crashes on highway.

A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of toxic soil from a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio overturned, spilling roughly half its contents onto the highway. The driver sustained minor injuries and was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control. The spilled soil did not threaten any waterways. The cleanup process of removing contaminated soil and water from the site remains ongoing more than two months after the derailment.

Toxic Disasters Plague East Palestine: Health Clinic Opens Amidst Truck and Train Accidents.

A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of toxic soil from the site of a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio overturned, spilling nearly half of its contents onto the roadway. The driver suffered minor injuries and was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency responded to the scene and assured residents there is no threat to public health. The cleanup and environmental damage caused by the train derailment is being overseen and paid for by Norfolk Southern, with over 5,500 tons of contaminated soil and 9 million gallons of wastewater removed from the area so far. The federal government has filed a lawsuit against Norfolk Southern over the environmental damage caused by the derailment.
