Mattias Skjelmose dominates Tour de Suisse with thrilling time trial win.
Mattias Skjelmose of Trek-Segafredo won his first WorldTour stage race by holding on to finish third in the closing time trial at the Tour de Suisse, nine seconds down on stage winner Juan Ayuso of UAE Team Emirates. Ayuso's winning time of 32:25 wasn't enough to take the overall title, as Skjelmose finished nine seconds ahead of him to win the race. The 22-year-old Dane looked to be out of it at the first checkpoint on the 25.7km course, falling out of virtual yellow with a second's deficit to Ayuso, but he rallied to mount a comeback on the hilly mid-section of the stage to claw back precious seconds and take a big victory.
