Mets designate Darin Ruf.

The New York Mets have designated veteran Darin Ruf for assignment and added speedy outfielder Tim Locastro to their roster for the upcoming season. The team also selected right-hander Tommy Hunter to the Major League roster. Ruf batted just .152/.216/.197 without a home run after coming to the Mets in a trade with the Giants last August. The Mets are set to carry Locastro instead of Ruf as their fifth outfielder, allowing them to start free-agent signing Tommy Pham every time the team plays a left-handed pitcher.
