Mets' Struggles Continue with Another Series Loss to Pirates.

The New York Mets lost 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the series finale at PNC Park on Sunday. The Mets' offense struggled, only managing three hits and one run, a Jeff McNeil solo home run. Carlos Carrasco pitched a so-so outing, allowing two runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. Left-handed relief pitcher Josh Walker was the star of the game for the Mets, picking up a huge strikeout of Jack Suwinski with two runners in scoring position. The Mets have now lost eight of their last nine games and sit four games below .500.

Mets DFA veteran reliever Tommy Hunter in bullpen overhaul

The New York Mets have designated right-hander Tommy Hunter for assignment and optioned lefty Zach Muckenhirn to Triple-A, while recalling right-hander John Curtiss and left-hander Josh Walker to the big league roster. Hunter, a veteran of sixteen MLB seasons, has struggled during his age 36 season with a 6.85 ERA in 23 2/3 innings. Muckenhirn returns to Triple-A, while Curtiss and Walker join the Mets' bullpen.

Mets Call Up Josh Walker, Send Peterson to Minors.

The New York Mets have optioned left-hander David Peterson and will replace him with fellow lefty Josh Walker, who will be making his major league debut. Walker, a 37th round selection of the Mets in the 2017 draft, has been working exclusively in relief this year and has a 0.68 ERA over nine Triple-A outings. Peterson, who has struggled with an 8.08 ERA through eight starts, will head down to the farm to work on his game.
