Republican Senator Todd Young Rejects Trump's 2024 Presidential Bid

Senator Todd Young (R-IN) has stated that he will not support Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, joining other GOP senators who have taken a similar stance. Young cited Trump's inability to bring people together and his losing record as reasons for his decision. However, many Republicans still support Trump due to his strong backing from the GOP base. Some are rallying behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a Trump-like alternative without the controversy. The GOP is fracturing over whether to stand by Trump or back a nominee with less political, legal, and personal baggage.

Senate moves closer to ending Iraq war authorizations.

The Senate has voted 68-27 to advance a bill that would repeal the 2002 Iraq war authorization and the 1991 Gulf War authorization. The legislation was sponsored by Sens. Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who argue formally ending the two Authorizations for the Use of Military Force (AUMFs) would send a message of support to Iraq, now a strategic partner in the Middle East. If the Senate bill passes, the House will have to take it up. Similar bipartisan legislation was introduced in the lower chamber earlier this year.
