Toheeb Jimoh on Playing Two Prominent Nigerian Characters on TV.

Toheeb Jimoh, a British-Nigerian actor, intentionally plays two Nigerian characters in currently airing shows, "Ted Lasso" and "The Power." Jimoh believes it's "awesome" to be a part of the narrative about Nigeria on television and show Nigerians in a different light. He deliberately changed the dialogue to speak a "bit of Yoruba" during his audition for "Ted Lasso's" Sam, which was originally written as Ghanaian. Jimoh hopes to add his own sauce to the narrative and bring all the joy and good stuff of Nigerian culture to the screen.

In American and British popular culture, Nigeria has been frequently reduced to scam depictions that contribute to racist stereotypes. Jimoh hopes to add his own sauce to the narrative and bring all the joy and good stuff that he has seen being on the inside of it to the screen.
