Tragic Death of Iranian Teenager Sparks Outrage and Grief
Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been arrested after attending the funeral of Armita Geravanad, a teenage girl who died after being injured in a mysterious incident on Tehran's Metro. Sotoudeh was detained on charges of violating Iran's mandatory headscarf law. Geravanad's death has raised suspicions of foul play, as she was not wearing a headscarf at the time of the incident. Sotoudeh, known for defending activists and women prosecuted for removing their headscarves, called Geravanad's death "another state murder."
