The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking to seize $5.2 million in Bitcoin from a teenage hacker who stole the cryptocurrency from crypto executives in 2016. The hacker, Ahmad Wagaafe Hared, was involved in a SIM-swapping scheme where he tricked cell phone carriers into handing over control of the victims' phones. Hared also purchased a sports car with the stolen Bitcoin. The scheme was uncovered in 2019, leading to the arrest of Hared and his co-conspirator.

Kurtaj and another 17-year-old, both with autism, were found guilty of hacking Rockstar, neobank Revolut, and Uber. The Lapsus$ group, consisting mainly of teenagers from Brazil and the UK, has allegedly hacked companies like Samsung, T-Mobile, and Microsoft, demanding ransoms.
