Juliane Koepcke, a teenager, survived a plane crash in the Amazon in 1971 and spent 11 days alone in the rainforest before being found by fishermen. She had a concussion, a broken collarbone, and some deep cuts, but the forest saved her life. She followed her father's advice to look for water and eventually found a larger body of water and human settlement. Her mother and everyone else on the flight died. Koepcke went on to study biology and became the director of a research station in the Amazon.
