Clemson University is offering counseling services to students, faculty, and staff after two graduate students died in a car crash in Pickens County, South Carolina. The victims were identified as Alberta Oduraa Quartey and Abena Gyamfua, both from Ghana. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is providing grief counseling to students, and ComPsych is offering counseling services to faculty and staff.
Two North Carolina State University students died by suicide, bringing the campus death toll this year to 14. The university has opened its counseling center for drop-in visits and announced other resources available to the NC State community. In total, seven of the 14 deaths have come by suicide. A student task force presented a report in February that outlined how tough college has been this year, with 34% of students surveyed dealing with some form of depression and 12% having suicidal thoughts. NC State has brought on more help in the counseling center and there are now more than 45 clinical positions.
The bodies of two Indiana University students, Siddhant Shah and Aryan Vaidya, were recovered from Monroe Lake on Tuesday after they went missing during a boating trip with friends on Saturday. The students, both attending IU's Kelley School of Business, were swimming when they did not resurface. Support resources and counseling services are available to students through the IU Division of Student Affairs.
