"Kansas State Record Crappie Disqualified for Steel Weight Tampering"
Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks removed a state record white crappie catch from its list after discovering two steel ball bearings inside the fish, prompting an investigation and the reinstatement of the previous record set in 1964. The angler, Bobby Parkhurst, voluntarily presented the fish for re-examination after a tip from an eyewitness, and the results of the investigation were sent to the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office, which found insufficient evidence to prosecute the case. This incident bears similarities to a previous case in Ohio where two men were accused of stuffing lead weights into fish during a fishing tournament.
