Researchers Plan Human-Brain-Scale Simulation on Exascale Supercomputer
Researchers at the Jülich Research Centre in Germany plan to simulate a human-brain-scale neural network by integrating models of brain regions on the JUPITER exascale supercomputer, following earlier work mapping a fruit-fly brain and a recent scalable spiking neural network demonstration; while this could markedly advance computational neuroscience beyond prior efforts like the Human Brain Project, experts caution that such simulations won't 'build brains' and may still only scratch the brain's mysteries.
