Sparrow Health System merges with University of Michigan Health, creating $7B entity.
University of Michigan Health has completed its merger with Sparrow Health System, creating one of Michigan's largest healthcare systems valued at $7 billion with 11 hospitals and 43,820 employees. The deal includes Sparrow's Physicians Health Plan and a Medicare Advantage plan. The University of Michigan Health has pledged an $800 million investment over the next eight years in Sparrow's six hospital campuses, funding facility projects, operations, and other strategic investments. No new name for the combined health system was announced, but a brand change is expected within the next year or less.
