UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that reparations for slavery are not about financial compensation but rather about fostering relationships with African nations through skill and science sharing. "California's Reparations Task Force Delivers Final Report, Awaits Legislative Decision"

Reparations Plan in California Faces Criticism and Challenges.

California Governor Gavin Newsom declined to endorse any specific recommendations made by his own task force on slavery reparations, including handing out up to $1.2 million in reparations to the state’s black residents. Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher criticized Newsom for making "big promises he can’t or won’t keep" and putting himself in a "lose-lose" situation. The task force recommended that the state create a new agency that would determine how much each black resident was owed by California as a result of their ancestors being enslaved or racist policies like redlining. The committee did not offer any ideas on where the money would come from.
