Returning Holocaust heirlooms to Jewish families: A German curator's mission.
Matthias Weniger, a curator at the Bavarian National Museum in Munich, is on a mission to return 111 silver objects stolen by the Nazis from Jews during the Third Reich in 1939 to their rightful owners or their descendants. Weniger has so far managed to return about 50 objects to the family members and relatives of the original owners and is convinced that he may be able to return almost all remaining objects by the end of this year. Despite the majority of descendants living in the United States and Israel, the museum has already or is in the process of also restituting silver pieces to France, Great Britain, Australia, and Mexico.
