Former NBA Star Shawn Kemp Receives Sentencing in Tacoma Shooting Case
Former NBA star Shawn Kemp was sentenced to 30 days of electronic home monitoring, one year of supervision, and 240 hours of community service after pleading guilty to second-degree assault related to a 2023 incident where he fired a gun in a Tacoma mall parking lot during a self-defense situation. Kemp tracked down a thief who stole from him, and after one of the suspects fired at him, he returned fire. The prosecution had sought a longer jail sentence, but Kemp's legal team emphasized his intent to promote awareness about gun violence.
