"Netflix's Transparent Data Reveals Surprising Viewership Patterns and Canceled Series"
Netflix's recently released report on global viewed hours for 18,000 titles from January to June 2023 sheds light on the streaming giant's decision-making process for renewing or canceling shows. Despite being the most-watched English-language scripted series during that period, "Shadow and Bone" was canceled after two seasons, likely due to strike-related delays and its high production cost. Other series that were not renewed include "Glamorous," "Agent Elvis," "Farzar," and "Captain Fall." The report reveals that shows with viewership levels similar to "Shadow and Bone" were typically renewed, while comedies required half as many hours viewed for a similar level of performance.
