The Growing Mental Health Crisis: Insufficient Psychologists to Meet Demand

A study conducted by the American Psychological Association reveals that the ongoing mental health crisis is creating significant obstacles for psychologists, as they face increased demand from patients with more severe symptoms. Over half of psychologists reported an increase in symptom severity, while 41% reported spending more sessions treating each patient, limiting their capacity to accept new patients. More than half of psychologists also reported having no openings for new patients, and wait times for appointments were up to three months or longer. The survey highlights the need for comprehensive public health strategies to address the growing demand for mental health care and emphasizes the importance of integrating mental health services with physical health care.
