Legendary Drummer Jim Gordon Passes Away at 77

Jim Gordon, a session drummer who played on hits by the Beach Boys, Steely Dan, and more, has died at the age of 77. He had been incarcerated since 1983 after killing his mother during a psychotic episode and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Gordon was a prodigiously talented drummer who played with Derek and the Dominos, co-writing their hit "Layla." His career faltered as his mental health deteriorated, and he became violent towards girlfriends and developed problems with heroin and alcohol. Despite frequent medical interventions, he did not maintain steady treatment.
