Legendary drummer Jim Gordon dies at 77, leaving behind a complicated legacy.

Jim Gordon, the renowned session drummer who played with Eric Clapton and The Beach Boys, has died at the age of 77. Gordon was diagnosed with schizophrenia and went to prison for killing his mother. He played on Derek and the Dominos' "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" and contributed the piano coda for "Layla." Gordon also worked with George Harrison, Steely Dan, Joan Baez, and many others. He was a member of The Wrecking Crew, a group of Los Angeles-based session musicians who played on hundreds of hits in the 1960s and '70s.
