Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed an AI system called "Coscientist" that combines three specialized instances of large language models (LLMs) to teach itself chemistry. The system includes a web searcher, a documentation searcher, and a planner, each with distinct capabilities. Coscientist demonstrated the ability to synthesize chemicals, control lab equipment, and optimize reactions.
