Unsettled Weather Persists with Shower and Storm Threat

Muggy weather continues with a threat of scattered showers and storms throughout the week. Hurricane Lee is expected to remain east of the Bahamas before potentially threatening New England or eastern Canada next weekend. Coastal areas along the entire East Coast will experience high surf, dangerous rip currents, and beach erosion. Tropical Storm Margot is nearing hurricane strength in the east-central Atlantic. Two new areas of concern in the eastern Atlantic have a low chance of development.

"Central Florida Braces for Intense Heat Wave"

A heat advisory has been issued for all of Central Florida, with feels-like temperatures ranging between 107-112 degrees. Scattered storms are expected throughout the day, with heavy rain, lightning, and wind gusts possible. The rest of the week will remain hot, with daytime highs in the middle-to-upper 90s and high humidity. Rain chances will provide some relief during the afternoons.

DC Area Braces for High Winds and Storms on Weather Alert Day

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for the D.C. region which began early Saturday morning and lasts through midnight. Later Saturday evening, the NWS issued a Tornado Watch for parts of Delaware and Maryland. Already, gusts have reached over 50 mph across the metro area, bringing down trees and power lines in Virginia, Maryland and the District. D.C.-area residents should brace for scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday as a warm front moves north.
