
Hidden Staircase Unearths 400-Year-Old Burial Vault Beneath a French Church
Archaeologists working on the restoration of the Church of Saint Philibert in Dijon, France uncovered a hidden transept vault with 400-year-old coffins, along with earlier tombs and six sarcophagi from Late Antiquity and the Merovingian period, revealing that the site sits atop an older church and was a major funerary center from the Roman era into the Early Middle Ages.
