Six suspects in Ecuador presidential candidate assassination found dead in prison
Six suspects believed to be involved in the murder of Ecuador's anti-corruption presidential candidate, Fernando Villavicencio, have been killed in a prison in Guayaquil. The suspects, all Colombian nationals, were arrested on the day of Villavicencio's assassination. The government has condemned the killings and pledged to identify those responsible for the murder. The incident comes just a week before a crucial run-off election, which has been marred by violence. Business heir Daniel Noboa, who holds a narrow lead in some polls, called for peace and demanded details of the prison incident, while his rival, Luisa Gonzalez, urged voters not to be deterred by "terror" and to vote for change.
