Rowan Wilson, a liberal-leaning jurist, has been confirmed as the first Black chief judge of New York State's highest court, the Court of Appeals. Wilson's confirmation comes after the State Senate rejected Gov. Kathy Hochul's previous nominee. Wilson's elevation could open a new chapter for the court after the six-year tenure of Janet DiFiore, the previous chief judge, who pushed the court to the right.
