Hochul selects new chief judge for NY after initial rejection.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has nominated Rowan Wilson as the state's first Black chief judge after her initial pick, Hector LaSalle, was rejected by Senate Democrats in February. Wilson, who is part of the more liberal side of the Court of Appeals, has been praised by Democrats for his record of upholding justice and fairness. To fill Wilson's position, Hochul nominated Caitlin Halligan, a former state solicitor general. The Senate will need to conduct confirmation hearings for both nominees.
