Expulsion Vote Looms for George Santos as Outrage Grows
The US House will vote on whether to expel George Santos on Thursday after he was accused of embellishing his résumé and breaking federal law. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that lawmakers would be allowed to vote their conscience on the matter, expressing his reservations about setting a precedent. Santos, who has pleaded not guilty to federal fraud charges, has refused to resign, prompting the initiation of expulsion proceedings. A two-thirds majority will be required to remove Santos from office. If expelled, a special election will be held within 90 days for his New York district.
