Resale in fast fashion fails to curb emissions, study finds
Fast-fashion retailers like Zara, Shein, and H&M are implementing resale programs to reduce their carbon footprints, but a new study suggests that these efforts may have little impact on emissions. The study found that fast-fashion brands would only reduce their emissions by 0.7% with resale programs, while premium apparel brands could reduce emissions by 14.8%. The analysis suggests that fast-fashion retailers would be better off focusing on their supply chain, using sustainable materials, and investing in recycling innovations to effectively reduce their environmental impact. Resale programs, although beneficial in terms of sustainability, may not be enough to significantly increase sustainability in fast-fashion companies.
