Fairphone, the European sustainable smartphone brand, is entering the US market by offering its repairable flagship handset, the Murena Fairphone 4, for sale in collaboration with e/OS, a French privacy-focused open-source OS maker. The Fairphone 4, known for its modular design that allows for easy repairs and upgrades, will be available with a "deGoogled" version of the Android operating system. Fairphone aims to reduce environmental impact and promote fair working conditions in the electronics industry. The device is recommended for use with T-Mobile and T-Mobile-based MVNOs in the US.
Fairphone has launched its first pair of over-ear headphones, Fairbuds XL, with a focus on utility and repairability. The headphones are made with 100% recycled aluminum, 100% recycled tin in its solder paste, and 80% recycled plastic. The company says they’re the “most sustainable headphones on the market,” with almost all of the parts user-replaceable and available to buy. Fairbuds XL comes with 40mm dynamic drivers, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and an Ambient Sound Mode. It has an 800mAh battery which the company says will last for 26 hours with ANC or for more than 30 hours with it switched off. The Fairbuds XL are available in speckled black or speckled green and will be available to buy in Europe from May 11th, 2023, on Fairphone’s website, priced at €249 (around $275).
