Rep. Patrick McHenry, Former Temporary House Speaker, Announces Retirement from Congress
Rep. Patrick McHenry, former temporary House speaker, has announced that he will not seek reelection to Congress next year. McHenry, who represented North Carolina's 10th congressional district since 2005, stated that he believes "there is a season for everything and—for me—this season has come to an end." He served as the speaker pro tempore after Rep. Kevin McCarthy was removed as House speaker in a no-confidence vote. McHenry's accomplishments include chairing the House Financial Services Committee and playing a significant role in the passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
