India's Court Orders Survey of Mosque in Controversial Hindu-Muslim Dispute

An Indian court has granted permission to survey the Shahi Eidgah mosque in Mathura city, Uttar Pradesh, to determine if it contains Hindu relics and symbols. Hindu groups claim the mosque was built on the site of a destroyed Hindu temple believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The survey aims to ascertain the presence of any relics or Hindu symbols inside the mosque. This dispute is part of a larger controversy in India, where hardline Hindu groups seek to reclaim and restore revered temples, often leading to conflicts with the country's Muslim minority.

Controversial Survey of Gyanvapi Mosque Sparks Legal Battle

An Indian court has granted permission for a scientific survey to determine if a 17th-century mosque in Varanasi was built over a Hindu temple, a contentious issue between India's Hindu majority and Muslim minority. The Gyanvapi mosque is one of several mosques in Uttar Pradesh state that some Hindus believe were constructed on demolished Hindu temples. The survey, conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India, was temporarily halted by the Supreme Court but has now been allowed to proceed. Muslim petitioners have objected to the survey, citing potential damage to the structure, and have the option to appeal the decision in the Supreme Court.

"ASI Surveys Gyanvapi and Qutub Mosques, Court Hearings Underway"

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has begun a survey of Varanasi's Gyanvapi mosque, as ordered by a local court, to determine if it was built over a Hindu temple. The survey will exclude the sealed "wuzukhana" area where a structure claimed to be a relic of Lord Shiva was discovered. The ASI has until August 4 to submit its report to the district court. The mosque is located in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency and is part of a long-standing Hindu-Muslim dispute over the alleged destruction of Hindu temples.
